Setup

No theme files. No tag manager. No developer on a ticket.

Everyone says five minutes. Here is the whole flow instead — every step, what each one needs from you, and the three places it can take longer than that through nobody’s fault.

The install, start to finish.

  1. 01

    About a minute

    Open your install link

We send you the link; opening it takes you into your own Shopify admin to approve the scopes. That grant is what lets Tracyn read your orders server to server, which is the half of the pair no browser can interfere with.

    Needs: Shopify admin access

  2. 02

    No action

    The storefront bundle installs itself

The purchase pixel runs inside Shopify’s own Web Pixels sandbox and the storefront script ships as a theme app extension. Nothing is pasted into your theme, and there is no tag manager container to maintain.

    Needs: Nothing

  3. 03

    One OAuth click each

    Connect each ad platform

Authorise Meta, Google Ads or TikTok and pick the account to send to. This is the step that can stall — not because it is slow, but because you may not be the admin on the ad account, and Google Ads conversion access can sit behind a manager account.

Needs: Admin on the ad account

  4. 04

    No action

    Leave your existing pixels alone

Do not remove them. The browser pixel still does work only a browser can do, and both copies of a purchase carry the same event ID, so the platform records one conversion rather than two.

    Needs: Nothing

One OAuth click per platform.

Each destination delivers through its own server-side API. Connecting a fourth platform does not change your bill — pricing is set by sessions.

    Conversions API

  • Google Ads

  • TikTok

The honest part

Where it is not five minutes.

Three of these are outside anyone’s control and one is a single line in your theme. None of them is a surprise if you read this first.

  • A strict Content-Security-Policy needs one line

If your theme sets a custom CSP, the bundle host has to be allowed in script-src. It is a single entry, documented at install, and it is the only theme-side change Tracyn asks for. Most themes do not set one at all.

  • Ad-platform access is the real bottleneck

The Shopify side is minutes. Whether you can authorise Meta and Google Ads the same afternoon depends on whether you hold admin on those accounts — for agency-managed accounts that is a message to your agency, not a task for you.

  • Data starts immediately; bidding does not move immediately

Orders are captured from the moment the app is installed and conversions start flowing the same day. The effect on cost per acquisition arrives later, because the platforms’ models have to retrain on the fuller signal. That is why the free window is fourteen days and not two.

  • Historic orders are not backfilled

Tracking starts when you install. Conversions from before the install are not sent retroactively, and any vendor offering to backfill your ad platform with historic conversions is describing something the platforms’ attribution windows will mostly reject anyway.

Before you install

What merchants ask about setup.

Do I need a developer to set this up?

No. The install is an app approval in your Shopify admin and one OAuth click per ad platform. There are no theme files to edit, no Google Tag Manager container to configure and no code to paste. The single exception is a custom Content-Security-Policy, which needs one host added to script-src.

Will this conflict with my existing Meta pixel or Google tag?

No, and you should keep them. Tracyn runs alongside your browser pixel rather than replacing it. Both copies of a purchase carry the same event ID — and for Google Ads, the Shopify order ID as the conversion’s order ID — so each platform collapses them into one conversion instead of counting the sale twice.

How long until I see conversions arriving?

Orders are captured from the moment the app is installed, and conversions reach the platforms you have connected the same day. What takes longer is the bidding effect: the platforms’ models need to retrain on the fuller signal before cost per acquisition moves, which is what the fourteen free days are for.

What if my ad accounts are managed by an agency?

You need someone with admin on the ad account to complete the OAuth step — that may be your agency rather than you. Google Ads in particular can require the connection to be made through the manager account that owns conversion access. Nothing about the Shopify side is blocked by this; only the platform connection waits.

How do I remove it?

Uninstall the app from your Shopify admin. That is the whole process. Conversions already sent live in your ad accounts and stay there, and your raw event history is exportable for as long as the contract runs.
